I own a beautiful LP copy that I bought about 25 years ago. It has a sunburst finish, a single mother-of-pearl diamond inlay on the headstock, and trapezoidal m-o-p fret inlays. This guitar has a four-bolt bolt-on-neck, and the body appears that it's a single piece of wood. The binding is a striped black and white around the front of the body, and white around the back of the body and along the edges of the fretboard.

There are absolutely NO markings on this guitar that indicate who built it. I've removed the various plates and looked. The only plate I haven't removed is the nect plate. I'm afraid that if I removed those bolts, the neck will never be the same.

I'm hoping that someone on the forum may be able to help. What is this guitar???

Thanks!

A picture might help.

That makes perfect sense. I'll post a shot of the guitar later today.

Just from the description sounds like a copy made in Japan in the late 70's. I assume it has an "open-book" headstock like a Gibson, just without the Gibson decal/inlay? If so then it's probably MIJ from that time period.

If it has a non-open-book headstock it is probably later (post-"lawsuit") and could come from anywhere, Japan or Korea would be best bets for a newer one.

Post a pic. It may be that the emblem has been removed or covered over.

It is typical of mid-late 70s MIJ guitars not to have serial numbers or even Made in Japan markings.
