Hey,
I have an early 50's es-125.......nice guitar, but not a collector's piece......already has new tuners, frets and a Bigsby installed.

It would be infinitely more usable to me with a bridge P-90, in addition to the one at the neck (would also love a cutaway, but I know that's a whole different story!!).
Anyone ever added a pickup to a guit like this?

Any advice?

Although a nice 125 or 150 is a great little box for some things, it does have its limitations. I found a really beat up '52 150 hanging in a repair shop back in 1989 and picked it up for 60 bucks. Sides were split, some inlays missing, but the rest of it was there. I cleated the side cracks and made replacement inlays and then added a old P90 for a bridge pu. The result was similar to a non-cutaway 60's 125 TD or an ES 300. A year or two later, I added a cutaway and another set of volume/tone controls in order to clone an early ES 350. It has worked great for me and is a very versatile instrument---nice R&B/blues tone with lighter strings and a great Tal/Barney/John Collins bop tone with big flats. I wouldn't do this to a guitar in better condition, but it has worked out well in this case.

i had a friend who made a bracket out of pickguard material that slid onto the bridge posts and held a tele pickup. it worked great

Buy yourself a modern ES 125... any change to an old original guitar is a bad thing. It might be worth much later on as time goes - if untouched. So my advice is leave alone and buy a new one... troels
