Hey,
I have a student who is an Angus Young freak. She's into getting an SG, and has a budget of @ $600. What would you suggest?

Thanks,
jim

The current SG Faded's are under $600 including a gig bag and come in two flavor's

The cherry is a little redder and the browner is a little browner in person. Check the fretwork, they sometimes have some protruding ends but the better ones are pretty darn nice.

Musician's Friend is blowing out year 2000 Gibson SG Jr's for $399! Ebony color only.

I've already vowed to only spend money on lessons for the rest of this year... :(

But the fadeds are quite nice guitars. I've played some at GC and was quite impressed.

There is an SG faded at the guitar center near me, and it is the best SG in the store. Under 600 bucks, too. I believe it has a 500T humbucker in the bridge position, so it will rock like Angus (he's my guitar hero also - tell her to check out AC/DShe - an all female tribute band to AC/DC!) and has a real nice neck. Like any Gibson, they are hit or miss - check em all out. But the SG faded is a nice guitar. If I only had 6 bills, I would buy one in a heartbeat, and I play an SG standard now!

Good luck!

SG's and played many more. I currently own a Faded. I was trying out a few of the SG's in stock at my local shop last week..Standard, P90 Special, and X.. none were as nice or played as well as my Faded. A well set up FF is a very good deal. The Juniors on close out are also a bargan. My former SG was a I (a little known guitar that morphed into the X... sort of a Junior with a coil tapped HB..)Very nice..if you like the big necks.. they pop up used on occasion for @ 350 (I got mine NEW for that a clearance sale a few years back!) ..of course for the true affecinado the "Angus" IS a killer guitar..I'm not a AC-DC fan, but I had one here for a week or so that I purchased for a friend, who is stationed overseas...Impossible to put down..too bad they cost 1500+ used..but worth every penny. It took me awhile to "get around" to shipping it..

My faded went to hell on me... (neck went wacko) and that was the 3rd SG that I've had that was unsatisfactory. I love the looks/sound of them but it sure seems like it's hard to find one that functions. I've heard from others that SG's are a hit or miss proposition. I sure wish I'd hit one of these times instead of miss.

Faded SG's are now fair traded at $690. How quickly time flies and dollar$ inflate ....
