I have my eye on a J-60 on the internet but I've never played one. How do they stack up against a D-28 which is what I've been told is Martin's equivalent model? Thanks.

I am no pro (about 8 years playing) but over the last month I probably played 50+ acoustics in my quest for my ultimate acoustic (wife approved). Although I really like the Martin's, and they are impressive, the Gibson's had a unique sound all their own. Especially the J series Gibsons (including Advanced Jumbo's). It's a "clank" that resonates from the B and E. Although the Martin's had more power, and were even brighter in some cases, the unique sound of the Gibson is what I wanted. It is what I hear in the old recordings by Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and many others. Some may not want that rockabilly / delta blues / country sound, others like myself will accept no substitute when looking for their last acoustic. I went for a J-45 rosewood model. I think I would have been just as happy with an Advanced Jumbo in rosewood (none in stock). This is a recent purchase of mine, so it is a little early for me to give a review. But I do find myself smiling every time I strum it because it has "that sound".
