Nearly 4 hours of concert footage plus nearly an hour of interviews, etc. Like em or not, can't deny Zep could RAWK!

I'm through about half the Jan. 1970 Royal Albert Hall concert and all the 1973 Madison Sq Garden, browsed the rest. I'm most impressed with '70 RAH-and the remarkably restrained and polite audience-wazzit the herbs?

Image and sound are impressive, great restoration effort. The DTS mix is clear, well staged and so LOUD I kept my amp's volume set about 30%, at between 9-10 oclock I measured C weighted 95 db/some peaks 100db! seated about 15 feet to the modestly efficient (~88db) main speakers. No louder out of fear for my ears and my tweeters.

Gee, I didn't know Jimmy Page could play da bluz!

Page-Les Pauls-Marshalls style/tone: I can't imagine a documentation more definitive than this DVD.

Yesterday, I got the DVD as an early Father's Day present. Very cool! I've only watched the first disk. So far, I like his Tele stuff the best. His "White Summer" piece on a Dano DC59 was hip, even though you could tell it was going out of tune! My wife said, "Hey! That's a Danelectro!" (She's never recognized a guitar before this and I'm very proud of her!) Like I said, I've yet to watch disk 2.

It reminded me of why I own a Telecaster, a Les Paul and an Black Danelectro DC59. Playing Heartbreaker or Dazed reminds me of playing them 30 years ago. Immortal riffs indeed. I'd forgotten how much I learned from Page.

I saw some of the interview with Page, Jones, and Plant this morning on NBC. They showed some footage of Page with his 'burst working through those Marshalls. That combination has to be a hall of fame rig. I want a '59 Historic....I am being GASSED!

Anybody know if Page used his Tonebender (or any other pedals, disregarding the obvious wah and delay setup for a moment) inbetween his LP and Marshall?

Listening to the DVD (fantastic sound, isn't it! wow) it seems like it's sounding a little full-on saturated occasionally, as if it's more than just a plexi and the LP. Given that he used it with his Tele, it seems to make sense that he would've used it for the Paul too, even if not all the time.

I'd love to know. I've had problems getting a loud, truly rich sound like that out of a plexi without a pedal to 'heat' things up before going into the amp. It wasn't the guits or the amps I don't think - the LPS were a super lightweight '57 goldtop and a small bunch of Historics, and the amps were an old plexi and some plexi reissues, all depending on the occasions. No matter the volume, the sound was always a little dry and brittle and 'here and now'. A pedal fixes that for me & I wonder if Page did the same.

If so, I wish somebody had told me years ago so I didn't chase some unattainable nirvana trying to get that sound out of nothing more than an amp, a cord and a guitar

PS - isn't Page's main LP a '58? In that case, save yourself some money & lust after that historic instead.

His tone is definitely juiced up fuzz wise. You can tell because he sounds the same with the tele early on as he does with the paul. It's a Tone bender or something. Fuzzy and fat. I got the dvd and the 3 cd set and it is some great stuff! How about Bonham setting off those cannons back there? What an amazing band all around.

Hence forth to be known as THE DVD
Coolest Zeppelin release ever.Funny we had to wait 30 + years for technology to catch up so we could watch this in our own homes

The Albert Hall encores are my favorite part. The Black Beauty w/the Bigsby, you can't beat that.

Now roll that beautiful Burst footage

1) too many renditions of Dazed and Confused and Communication Breakdown

2) No Quarter is missing - how could they deny me this?

It is a stunning disc set.
