I'm tempted to replace the hot ceramic stock pickups. Any recommendations? SD Jazz & JB, Gibson Burstbuckers, DiMarzio Virtual PAFs, VanZandt etc.? I play a mish-mash of classic rock/blues/country/r&b.
Also, how about treble bleed on LPs? Useful?
Thanks for any help. SS.

What type of sound/music are you aiming for? There are so many good pickups with so many different sounds.
As for the treble bypass cap question, you should not need them with the stock pots. Gibson uses a 300K pot with a special taper so that the presence is maintained through the range of the pot settings. Notice that when you go below '7' or so on the vol pot, you still have presence. If you set your amp up so that at 10 you are in overdrive, bringing the pot down cleans the distortion from the amp and still yields usable, 'present' sounds all the way down to 2 or so?
If you wanted to change to 500K pots as the '50's bursts had, then a treble bypass cap or the '57 Custom wiring scheme would be advantageous, imo. Changing to the 500K pots also results in a bit more brightness.

I replaced my Classic pickups with Gibson Burstbucker Pros. It was a good move. The BB's are a lot more sensitive to capturing picking dynamics and left hand nuances.
I'm into 50's electric blues tones, early Clapton/Yardbirds/Cream tones, and Zeppelin II tones. The BB's are a good choice for those.
I haven't really tried much else, but I know that the BB's work for me!

It cleaned the bridge tone enough. I still have 496R in itīs place, just put a nickel cover on. I like that neck pup tone, or should I say I have no experience about anything better  .

I replaced mine with Duncan Seth Lovers. I also had the pots and caps switched over to '50s era specs. Now I can do classic rock, blues, Les Paul tunes, etc. :D
