2002 58 RI Authentic, Darkburst
I also have a 2003 56 RI Goldtop. I had a 8.5 lb 54 RI
that was stolen from me. I bought this with the insurance money.
I am having the neck re-shaped on the 56RI to match a real 58 Sunburst Les Paul that I played. The necks on these guitar are still MUCH fatter than any of the original 50's Les Pauls that I have played. I've played a real 52, 54, 56 Custom, 57, and 58 burst and all had very comfortable necks that were nothing like the baseball bats that come standard on the reissues. Although, my 02' 58 RI has a more realistic neck than some of the others.
Great guitars!!

Just did some trading and picked up a new '54 reissue last Saturday (that's the goldtop with P-90's and a wraparound tailpiece). It's my first Les Paul (unless you count my special) and it is awesome, I can't hardly put it down. Weighs 8.45 lbs (also the first guitar I've ever weighed!) balances nicely on my lap, unlike some other LP's I've tried.
The strings really have that "slinky" feel--wraparound tp?-- and it's a joy to play. The top three strings bind a little at the nut, I'll have to fix that. No pics yet, but unlike the bursts, the goldtops all look pretty much the same.
Now, if I can just stop playing Hideaway and Sen-sa-shun!

Just bought a 1967 Gibson B-45 12 string. Fantastic shape, sound wonderful, frets like butter. Now I have to choose between my Martin DC1E and my Gibson, but I think the Gibson will win out. Anyone know anything aobut this guitar? All info would be very helpful. Thanks.

This is the first one I've ever purchased. It's a '57 GT...Mar '03 with Braz fretboard. I got it about two months ago. I've been a Strat, Tele player for eons..but am really enjoying this one. Seems to be very well made, and plays/sounds great.

It's one of the "stingers" from Music Machine that someone bought two of and traded one. So I'm getting it. Quilt top in iced tea 'burst. If it's half as nice in real life as the pictures I'll be one happy camper! I had a '68 GT as a kid and let it go. This is the guitar I'm replacing it with. It's less then a '68 would cost, and from all I've heard, a better guitar.

My H-56 quilt top arrived on Nov. 18th. I only played it a little on the night I got it, but I wasn't impressed. I wasn't bonding with it. I was going to drive down to the store with the guitar I almost bought to compare them side by side. But first, I had to crank it up through my amp. After a couple of hours of putting it through it's paces, I knew I was in love. There was no point in driving down to the the music store.

I play a ES295 from 1990.
Were they called Historic at the time?

That is one beautiful book matched top!
I love those ribbon flames better than others.
I have 2 R8s and a R6 all made in '94.
the R8s are plaintops and have a finish much
like Bluesgtr20's one.
This is their 10th anniversary.
All 3 have the same big neck. The R8s have
(original) different frets but are consectutive
serial numbers and Tom Murphey ones.
The R6 is most likely also as it is #039 or
8 4039.

How do you like the ES-345?
Which finish is it?
I dig those double P-gram fret inlays.

I own a weird Historic, one they did'nt make many of, it a 68 LP Custom, a Historic reissue of the 68 reissue, long tenon, ABR-1, 57 classics, and the biggest neck they make! I really dig this guitar, it's not a feather weight, it's slightly over 10 lbs, but it sings like a birdhttp://www.bigblockdodge.com/LP2001.jpg

'57 RI Les Paul Custom.
I turned the neck pickup around so the polepieces are closer to the bridge... this guitar is IT!
I love all of my guitars, but especially my ES-135, my Junior (the most used in my recordings), and my Telecaster... the other ones are OK too :)
My '72 Fender Champ and Marshall TSL60 love the '57.

2000 '57 Gold Top - changed the pups out to experimental pre-Burstbuckers I got from a friend that has inside connections. Changed the stoptail out to a Murphy aged lightweight piece. Sounds fabulous!

2004 Jimmy Page Signature Les Paul #1 - A '59 Burst relic'ed to look like Jimmy's #1. Awesome guitar! They say it's the best Historic ever and I believe it, best one of the Historics I've ever picked up and played. I've got it in an old peanut case and it looks like the real thing when you crack it open and peek at it for the first time.

Gotcha, Stevie! I had an original '54 I bought from Mandolin Bros back in '91. The thing was hammered by the original owner, who, I was told, played it in church every weekend for 30+ years. The finish was battered, the gold was litterally falling off in spots, and it had capo rub-throughs all over the lower part of the neck. However, it barely weighed 8 lbs and not a single screw appeared to have ever been touched on it. As a result of having actually been used over the years it was loose as a goose and had some kind of mojo like you can't describe. I'd take it out to jams once in a while & play it cranked through a RI Bassman tweed and the crowd would be like "Holy *&^%!!!!!" I let Stan Jay sell it for me in the mid-90s as part of a "thin the collection" move and have regretted it ever since. If your Historic '54 ages like that guitar you're going to have to make a trip to the swamps & burn some bat wings!
