This is for sale at the local guitar shop here. 1965 SG. It is currently owned by one of the co-owners. I wonder if I have enough equity in my house?....

Sweet! This past week a new student at the shop showed me a 67 (he said) that his uncle had given him to learn on.
I am one to forget how awesome a good SG can be, that guitar played itself.

Have you played this guitar? From the pics I have seen, it looks to have a slim neck at the nut...seems like a buddy said that it did...I'm from just up the road. BTW, Scott has had the guitar on eBay recently...

Thanks for the link, I didn't know he had put it up on eBay. I haven't played it, so I'm not sure about the neck. When I was in there a few weekends ago, he had it in a glass case with the masterbuilt tele. The tele was priced at 3500 or so, and the SG wasn't tagged, so I figured I wouldn't even ask...

Had an Ebony Standard and a White LP/SG. They seem to be so fast and easy to play, not to mention light weight and the tone.
Saw a cherry one (like above) without the bigsby in a local shop last week. Didn't look closely at it - donno whether it was an older or newer model.

The solder on the pickups looks like it may have been messed with. Aren't the 65 paf's half of the cost of that guitar.
How did they get that thing so shiny too!

case with the masterbuilt tele
That pine bodied Tele, I played it, really neat...the neck pickup really caught my attention. Other than that, I thought I could live without it (for $3500). John
here's a pic of the Tele:

I picked up a '67 in good condition at the end of last summer for a mere $900. The vintage SG market is very funny, it seems to go up and down on a whim. I think that it's due to the fact that the vintage Gibson market is pretty much tapped out by the LP and the 335.
Buyers who are willing to wait can still find good examples at reasonable prices. If sellers are patient, they seem to be able to hook up with buyers willing to pay top dollar.
I love my '67, sounds more like a 335 than an LP. Love the neck with it's slim neck/body joint that lets an old fart with small hands like me to play waaaay up the neck.

SG pricing moves up & down alot. I picked up my '63 Jr for $600 & change. To my surpprise it is now my favorite guitar! :D

Didn't the neck on SG's get thinner post 1963?
I mean width wise.
It sounds snobbish but the 63's or earlier feel better to me.

In H.S.(late 70's) a friend of mine found a LP/SG
Standard at a neighborhood yard sale! The seller told
him"I have a few other things that go with it". A few days
latter he came home from school and found a selection
of straps, books, picks etc. and a Brownface Deluxe!
Total cost $50.00.......

I think that in mid- 1965 you began to see a transition in the neck profile. I recently sold my '67 SG Jr. When compared to my '63 it had a chubbier neck with a narrow nut. The neck was also less stable.

Yes, VoodoVox - Didn't the whole neck joint change then too?

Hi Trisonic, they changed quite a bit, the neck joint, the neck at the nut and the body was less beveled (thicker) etc. Up through the end of '64 they had the highly beveled bodies with the wide slim tapered necks.
