anfontan May 22nd, 2010, 01:09 PM My wife and I went to a great concert at the Ryman this week and went by George Gruhn's music store the next day. Very nice stuff-I took a few pictures, I'm afraid that was all I could afford to bring home from there....
Here is a selection of Les Pauls-with a cool old Kay in the foreground-

Some SG's with a few Flying 'V's'-

Some Archtops and Mandolins plus assorted others-

anfontan May 27th, 2010, 07:34 PM I hope that some of you enjoyed the pictures I posted-I really enjoyed the visit to Gruhn guitars a lot. I just don't get to see nice Gibsons and older vintage ones as well in my local music stores.
And the fact that Gruhn is located a few blocks from the Cumberland River, which majorly flooded out sections of the town, and it luckily had no flood damage at all, was quite a miracle.:)
indianation66 May 27th, 2010, 09:00 PM I do like the photos, especially number two. I'm kind of on an SG kick right now, and doing some searches. Thanks for stirring the pot. By the way, I've been to Nashville once, and visited the store. I seem to remember it being full; probably with tourists. I'd bet Gruhn Guitars is becoming a must see, like the Opry.

anfontan May 29th, 2010, 07:12 PM Thanks for checking out the photos and the comments indianation-that last SG before the 'V's was like the one I had in the late 1970's. I think the whammy bar always threw it majorly out of tune and I honestly think the neck caused an allergic reaction. My thumb would blister when I played it for more than 10 minutes... My Epi G-400 has no problems with tuning or reactions-the Epi is a definite mainstay of my guitar collection.
sevycat May 30th, 2010, 08:45 AM Thanks for posting the pictures. I liked the LP Black custom hanging on the wall.
indianation66 May 30th, 2010, 09:02 AM I'm still on my SG quest. I've ruled out brown or black, which is easy. Trying to find an early 70s with minibuckers is a bit tough, but deciding between blood red or burgundy is tougher, like the two axes hanging side by side before the V.
Addendum: As unique as the V is, I never really cared for the shape, unless it was in the hands of Paul Stanley, mimicking his eye!

The 2nd one in the first photo was a 1954 re-issue-it looked very nice. It had P-90's and the neck pickup had oval shaped pole pieces. It was a lot like this photo I found-minus the bigsby.

It's a cool place to browse and take pictures, George Gruhn walked through once but seems to hang out upstairs-I'm sure the real prized guitars are up there with him!

I can't say that I have ever saw an SG with mini-humbuckers-I am installing a set of mini's on my Epi Firebird though-I had to fabricate pickup rings to fit the large humbucker routs though...first picture is 2 minis and 2nd is closeup of bridge mini-this is my 1st attempt, I may redo the mounting rings later
I had a Dean 'V' years ago-never really cared for it that much, it just wasn't for me I guess. I traded it for my Epi Sheraton II and never regretted it a bit!
