Of the Rascals (nee Young Rascals) playing great Rock 'n' Roll on a big ol'
Barney Kessel???

Predated Ted Nugent by almost 10 years.

What ever happened to him? I remember hearing that quick chord break in "Good Loving" for the first time as a kid; just about froze in my tracks.

Yeah, made quite an impression on me in my youth - I
STILL remember The Rascals on Dick Clark's "Where The
Action Is" lip-syncing to "I Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart
Anymore." I loved them bend-y "pull 'em up into unison"
notes from Gene's solo that predated Jimi's "Manic
Depression"...

Ya got me thinkin' about the past, Frank!

But I'm 43 and I'm assuming you guys are in that arena.
I just about get weepy remembering those days; REAL cars in driveways, guitars in every garage and on the TV (Glen Campbell, heck even Roy Clark) , "Groovin", "Secret Agent Man", good Motown, redmeat was good for you back then! I can almost smell the sunburn when I hear a tune like that. Sheesh.

Uh, that "arena" is 'way in the rear view mirror for me...
I was rushing home from high school to watch "Paul Revere and the Raiders" warm it up for "WTAI"...!

Now that's one show to remember!
The Music Machine playing Talk, Talk with gloves on one hand. Wonder where Michael Jackson got the idea.

Saw a great live show in the Island Garden (NY).

The Vagrants (Leslie West's first band).

The Vanilla Fudge (Don't laugh, they were GOOD).

The Rascals.

Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker and Eric Clapton were in the audience. This was before the release of Fresh Cream.

Had to take 3 busses to get there (we were too young to drive), but it was worth it.

You must've been the older guys with the cars, guitars, and girls that I admired so much!(not in that order though)

The Rascals annd Raiders were BIG in Hawaii. The first show I ever saw was P.R. and the Raiders, and then the Rascals. But about Gene Cornish - at the time I did not appreciate his playing because he didn't have the flash of Beck or Hendrix or Clapton, but now when I hear "Good Lovin" or "Lonely Too Long" or anything from the 1st 2 LPs I realize how hip his playing was because his tone was so.....what's the word?......I don't know, but that tone was like that Who album - meaty, beaty, big and bouncy - or sumthin like that!

Both about Gene and Paul Revere and the Raiders.

Gene was a mature player, much too good for us kids to "get" back then.

PR and the Raiders were a very accomplished bunch of true Rockers.

I'm from Sunny San Diego, and have only been in Chicago for about a year. I grew up in North Park and lived in Escondido most of my life, (until now).

Anyway, W.T.A.I brings up great memories! P.R with those cool Revolutionary War outfits, Vox guitars, and a backline of Super Beatles... 8)

I went to Apex Music in downtown S.D in 1969 and bought my Vox teardrop guitar and Pacemaker amp.
Never got a Super Beatle though...

Leslie West and Vinnie Martell are still living in the Hudson Valley of NY and still playing...LOUD!
