Anybody own one? Care to admit it? I've had one for a while now, a 78, all natural finish, maple. Blend dial, weighs a ton, plexiglass coated pickups. Don't play it all that much, but there is something I reallllly like about it.
Lets hear about yours. Who plays 'em?

I did own one in the mid 80s, bought it off the original owner who needed $250 fast. It was a natural finish with the white pickguard, one humbucker in the neck and a big single coil in the bridge, I hear Bill Lawrence designed those, they sounded good to me.
I passed it on to my friend and band-mate who was Gibson-less at the time, it was stolen from our rehearsal spot a few years later.
Nice guitar, bolt neck and all.

I had a 1976 about 8-9 years ago and lost it by not redeeming it at a pawn shop for $149.00. It was pretty cool too I miss it.

Hi.
A couple of questions about the Marauder:
The neck.
Although it's a bolt on, was this set at an angle like a Les Paul? I've seen an SG and a Flying V where the neck didn't have the angle. Both guitars were virtually unplayable.
Pickups.
Can anybody tell me what type they were? An earlier post says they were designed by Bill Lawrence. Made by BL? Gibson? I always assumed the single coil was some kind of P-90.
How well do they balance, volume-wise? Does the humbucker overpower the single coil?
I'd be very grateful for any info you guys might have.
Pete.

Found some details about the pickups, but still need to know about pickup volume balance and neck angle.
Come on guys! Somebody must have an answer.
Danelectro?
Auger?
Harleycarley?
Are you guys still around?
Anybody???
Pete.

Hi Pete B, haven't been around here in a long time.
The pickups, well, I remember that I favoured the neck bucker, and when both were on the bucker was more powerfull, so lowering it and raising the bridge helped the balance as I recall, nice tone with both on.
My ears at that time (mid to late 80s) were not fond of the bridge pickup alone, but that was a matter of taste, nothing wrong with the way the pickup sounded. I remember that both pickup covers were clear plastic allowing you to view the pickup's innerds. The neck pup had a green tinge to it with three height screws allowing you to tilt it to match the string's action.
I don't recall if the neck pocket had an angle to it, I don't think it did, but I can tell you that the guitar played very well, action was like a Les Paul, angled headstock I recall, and the neck was constructed with the headstock being one piece of wood that extended down the neck to about the second or third fret, very strong.
Good guitar, only sold it because I had a Les Paul and my friend/bandmate had no Gibson. It was eventually nicked from our rehearsal spot with some other guitars. I'm still looking, I could spot that one easy.

Yeh the marauder is cool. I'm also quite keen on the S-1. Its a shame you don't see many of the Marauder Customs
check this Gibson Marauder (http://www.vintageguitars.org.uk/marauder.php) page....
Mahogany necked models are mentioned in the Gibson 1979 international catalogue. Sounds odd to me - a bolt-on mahogany neck.... Anyone heard of, or seen such a thing?
thanks?

I once had a Gibson with a bolt on mahogany neck, but it wasn't a Marauder, it was a strange guitar called a GK-55 IIRC. Imagine a Les Paul Special single cutaway with humbuckers and a bolt on neck, that's pretty much what it was. It was a pretty good guitar too. Another local player had one, but those were the only two I have ever seen or heard of.
