I just bought a gorgeous 1979 Les Paul Special but I get those squeals at high volume... Is it inherent to single coil pickups or can it be solved ? Have any of you had problems like this and a solution to propose ( Other pup replacement? ) ?
Thanks in advance,
Frenchy

I used to get squeal on a Standard 79' telecaster (american) with the standard pickups on my Mesa Boogie, with the high gain channel. Was a problem with potting.... some pickups are potted and wax sealed. I had to replace the lead pickup , which was the worst with Seymor Duncan... Problem resolved. Do not know if this pertains to the Gibson too. My Junior has not squealed yet... but I have not turned it up very loud... If you like the sound of the pickups, some of the pickups companies , like Fralin, may be able to fix them for you at moderate cost.
