I moved this to Epi solidbody... cause you didn't indicate what kind of Epi. But if you would have looked over the list of forums you'd see 3 Epiphone forums for YOU to choose from.
Good Luck

I really like mine. They get trashed a lot by people who haven't played it. Most Gibson people are really into the art and beauty of their guitar. This isn't that. It is however a great player and sounds good too.
Would I rather have a good standard or a custom from Gibson. Only if it sounded as good and played as well.

I have a Gibson LP Special Faded Black - new. I love it. My main guitar.
I also have a Tobbacco burst Epi Sheraton Jazz guitar, about 13 years old. A wonderful guitar clean or dirty, the harmonics are great.
I just bought an Epi LP Junior - the silver one that was on the cover of the last Musicians Friend catalog. $99.95. 1 humbucker at the bridge - not a P-90. I bought it for a fun guitar. I can't put the thing down. It's a little tone monster. Amazing 100 dollar guitar. My son is 4. It will be his first real guitar in a year or two. I recorded a song with it. Amazing for the price. I found a Gibson gig bag on e-bay for 15.00 for the little JR. Happy!

This is the "Golden Age" of Korean manufacturing. A simple test: Go to your local big music store or pawn shop. Play a medium range Gibson,
any model, unamplified then amplified. Take down any Epiphone with a
glued in neck joint (no bolt-ons) and repeat the process. Frankly, I haven't modified any of my Epiphones....the PUP toggle in my Gibson Firebird was junk though and that infuriates me....you spend that kind of
money you want it right.
Throw away the pick!

I'm not a big fan of some of the electronics and some of the setups on the new Epiphones, but other than that I haven't seen an issue with them that would warrant me spending at least a 1,000 more on a Gibson which could potentially be of worse quality.
I've actually done what you said with three black customs. 1 Epi $600, 1 70's Probably Norlin era LP Gibson $3500, and 1 New $2970 LPC Gibson.
Weight Heaviest to lightest, 70's, New LPC, and Epi.
Acoustically Volume and Resonance. NewLPC, Epi, 70's
Amplified sound quality, The 70's LP sounded like a 70's LP in that it was tonally mid thick and somewhat dead. The Epi was brighter (strings newer?) and had less mmph or power electronically. The new LPC was as loud as the 70's, but the tone was more stilted or sterile sounding.
We played a show with a band with two JCM2000's and an LP standard and Custom. I played through my PV C30 with my epi with a BB3 in it. Both guys were kinda embarrassed to admit that mine played and sounded better than either of theirs.

While most of the newer Epiphones I have played have been fine, I have yet to play one that spoke to me. I have however played a number of new Gibsons that were simply amazing. Granted, there seem to be some issues with Gibson quality control these days but I haven't run across too many that aren't a good setup away from being a great axe. I can't say the same for the Epi's I've played - there is just something about them I don't like. I did play an Epi Ace Frehley signature model that I thought was really nice - I'd probably go for one of those if I ran across a good deal.

But the real question is, would you wear the make-up and platform shoes?.......and the price of flame throwers these days.....good lord it all just adds up!
Kidding (I was a Kiss fan when I was a kid).

Absolutely. The only problem is I have two bad ankles - probably not a good idea...
