Joey V and I, and others, have talked up this amp mucho on the TDPRI. Hot amp that fills in nicely between my tweed Deluxes and BF Super Reverb.

A '64 and a '65, both equipped with NOS RCA blackplate power tubes. Supposedly you can chain them with the 'monitor' jack, but I've never been able to get it to work.
Very sweet tele amps, great single coil presence.

...and it has become my main gigging amp out of a stable of 7 various tube amps(mostly Fenders,1 Boogie, and the Gibson). It is simple, not too loud,VERY toneful, and a looker. Without exception, every gig situation I have taken this amp on, if there are other guitarists in the house, they comment on the OUTSTANDING tone!I LOVE MY GIBBY! :D

these are cool amps, mine is actually the ga19rvt, smokin lil blues amp. Big tone for the small amount of money you invest for one of these, I think I payed about 200 bucks.
I used to have 2 and could daisy chain them together thru the monitor jack. What a great tone.

Did this thread start out with a question about the new Gibson amp?
Gene, that amp you bought is probably from the early to mid '60's. If the speaker is original, you can date it that way. Post the serial number and let's see if I can fit it in among my Gibson numbers. Descriptions help. The amp would have had rear-mounted controls as in the Fender Tweeds until the mid-60's. I am not aware of Gibson tube amps from the '70's. They hit the solid state bandwagon in the late '60's and fell from grace. hehehe (The Lab Series amps were the only thing they put out with any success until these latter day import amps.)
After the rear-mounted control designs, there were some front-control designs...some with a shallow cab with angles on the front and back at the top and some with a deeper cab and an angled front on the top. You can always pull the chassis and date the pots.
what is the cab covered in. The early 60's saw some tweed, soem white vinyl......in the mid 60's Gibson went to black and soem gray vinyl.

I forget the exact model #, but it's the new class A combo with reverb. (Goldtone) This amp is wonderful. It sings like no other production amp in this price range. I will get one, eventually, when finances allow. Check it out. It's much louder than any standard 15 watt amp. Very gigable. One of my good friends uses it all the time. I love Fender Deluxe Reverbs, but they get buried in the mix at most gigs, because of the 6V6's. This Gibson is stout.

The LP Custom 57 Historic and the GA-15RV work really nicely together..I have been really happy with the tone and feel of the two together.... :D

Well, it looks like I will get to hear one of these New Gibsons. A Fellow is bringing one in and it is on the market. What is the going rate for these amps in the used market? This one is a 1X12".

Wally...I paid about $650.00 new for a GA 15RV..make sure that it is the RV otherwise there's no reverb in it....I'm looking for another one used sooo I figure anywhere from $450-$550 is a fair price used....
make sense....? don

Thanks, Don, that gives me some benchmark. This fellow has two extra speakers with the amp...a Celestion V30 and a Blue Alnico. I am thinking that he is going to be pricing the amp out of the market for me, but I am looking forward to playing on one for a bit anyway.

I will check out the Hamer..to be honest with you , since my LP custom has a nitro finish I would love to pickup something with a poly finish that I could take to outside gigs or gigs were the climate is less then comfortable for laquer....

i think it's a 65 or 66. it's black tolex, silver face with black knobs on front. small two button hard wired footswitch. great shape. two channel, dry and wet.
i found a website about a year ago with some specifics, but since lost it. either way, a nice little amp, my main amp for practice in the house. haven't been giggin in a while so can't say how well it does with that. when i do turn it up the tubes rattle a bit, and they're fairly new. the sockets are a bit loose too, but the tubes stay in.
anyway, if anyone has any more info on these little amps, i'd be glad to listen.
thanks.

"Off we go, into the wild blue yonder,"
Howdy, Gene. I am a former air-man myself. That CTS speaker dates to the 21st week of '65. Take care of it. It is of an age that it may need some maintenance....caps, tightening sockets, etc....in order to assure that it lives a longer life.

it was recapped by the guitar store before i bought it. everything else is in great shape. i put new tubes in it myself. i only had a chance to crank it once or twice. it's about the right power level for the house. a lot more reasonable than the TWIN.
