Hi all,

I've got a '73 SG Standard, which came with a Bigsby and a rather wide tune-o-matic type bridge, which is the question. Does anyone familiar with these guitars know what this model bridge is called? It's a tune-o-matic type, but the bridge body itself is around an inch wide, and rectaungular - squared off on the corners.

Anybody know what these were referred to as? You know, in the vein of "Nashville", "ABR", etc?

Thanks,

Sean

Blood, I am not sure what the proper tag for that bridge is. Gruhn and Carter call it the 'large tune-o-matic' in their 'Vintage Guide' book. They also say it was introduced in '78. that is incorrect. I ordered a L.P. Recording that came with that bridge while I was stationed in Misawa, Japan in the USAF. I got the guitar just before Christmas in 1973. How could George and Walter make such a mistake? haha!

Thanks, Wally. Yeah, I've seen it on several guitars from the '73 or so timeframe, so I know it came out earlier than '78.

I guess next time I pull it, I should see what it says on the bottom.

Thanks,

Sean

Don't know what they're called, but I know you can get replacements at AllParts. It's about the only place I've found that has them.

Thanks. Luckily, mine's in good shape - I just have never known what to call it. I'll keep the link for AllParts, though, in case I need a spare. I also saw a guy on Ebay selling them for around $45, I think.

And I have seen them listed as such...my '73 Standard has one as well, marked "Made In Germany" on the underside. It's a good bridge, and they don't collapse like some of the earlier ABR models.

Hi,
I have the same type on my 1976 Standard and when I looked it up on a guitar parts supply site it clearly was a 'Nashville'.

I've seen "Nashville" used for all kinds of TOM tyoe bridges, skinny and wide. After doing a bunch of research, I'm pretty sure these were made by Schaller for Gibson, and they seem to he only been used on SG's and some more esoteric LP models like the Recording.
