Yippee! G-400 upgrade by epi newbie...
Hi all,
I just got an impulse buy - wasn't looking for one of these, but just loved the look and feel of it...
I found the pickups a bit dull (my other bucker guitar has SD's) so I got a pair of Wilkinson Zebras of the bay for 25 quid for both (!) and now it sounds fantastic
I'm a convert - this guitar rocks!

Hey Phil, how much is.......
Twenty Five Quid? Us over here in the colonies can't relate to that....LOL
Congrats on the guitar, that's a fine looking instrument and I'll be it sounds and plays great. I just bought the Gothic version of the Epi SG, not because of the looks so much but the fact that I got it brand new at a local store for only $199. I'd wanted an SG style guitar for a good while now and it fills the bill. The Epiphones, although a lot cheaper, really seem to do the job almost as well as their Gibson counterparts and in some ways are better. I like the frets on all of mine as they seem to be smaller.....Good luck and enjoyment with your new guitar, it's a good 'un. I love that wood grain, is the back the same pattern?......JH in Va.

JH - the choice here in UK are Tokai USG35, Vintage VS6 and the Epi g-400.
Of these, the Epi gets a lot of flack, mostly 'cos people think the pickups are weak. The ones I put in are the same as in the Vintage, but without the chrome covers. Personally, I think they suit the flame top much better than the chrome ones.
The other crit the Epi gets is holding tuning - I have to say, the Grovers are fine in that regard, but I can't comment on the Kluson type tuners, 'cos I haven't tried them.
The back is all black, body and neck.
cheers
Phil
