My new work in progress!

Hi all, just joined. Wanted to show my new work in progress. Just picked up this Epi Les Paul Special I with P-90's. Only thing done so far are some Wilkinson tuners, that was probably the weakest link. But for a just over $100 guitar, not complainin'! Gonna eventually change the stop tailpiece, so took some chrome off and brought it down to the copper plating. Also thinking bout a humbucker p-90 from Guitar fetish for the bridge. Overall, this baby plays great, intonation is right on, and the P-90's sound great. Always wanted something with them in it. Its been 25 years since I sold my black Gibson LP Standard...that was a mistake. Oh waiting for a Pin-up decal for the front. Hope to use you guys as a resource in the future and enjoy this forum. Thanks for my add to this board! Click image for larger version

Those guitars are "sleepers". All they need are a good set of tuners. I believe the pots may already be Alphas so the electronics are pretty decent. Personally, I wouldn't change the pickup to a humbucker sized one. Maybe a different P90 or a mini humbucker if you aren't happy with it but I wouldn't start carving out a cavity for something bigger. If I recall correctly, Anfontan has one of those.

I almost got one a few years back when GC was blowing them out on Labour Day for $89 and the Canadian dollar was almost at par. Just couldn't get down to Buffalo that weekend.

Welcome to Gibson-Talk! I guess I should pick up one of those little axes one of these days.

Hey Rob, I don't have a Epi Les Paul Special.
_
I have a Gibson Melody Maker from 2004-to me it is very similar to a Les Paul Junior.
The wood is a bit thinner on the headstock than the Les Paul Jr but it has a stop tail piece, tuneomatic and dog ear P90. The P90 can screams also-it is easy on a performance-way lighter than my Les Paul!

Sorry Tony, I remember someone here having one and for some reason I thought it was you.

Just did a search, Dana (d man) is the one with the Special I. For some reason, we can't get them here in Canada. I have to drive to Buffalo to the nearest GC.
