EPIPHONE plus top pro. Back veneer??!!

Hi All,

Fairly new here. I was in a guitar center this week and saw this new plus top pro on the wall. The back was dinged up pretty bad showing through the finish. We already know at this price point that the flame plus tip is a veneer, and that's normal, however, it looks to me like the back is also about 1/4" veneer. That's extremely disappointing. Check out these shots. What do you think?

They have been doing that for years. It is most obvious on the SG. If you find an older Epi that has the Gibson truss rod cover, you will notice the back is multi sections glued together. Most were not all that attractive. By applying a thick veneer, it improved the appearance.

Not to change the subject but it's amazing how many guitars at GC are in this shape. I appreciate that they welcome playing the guitars but this must really cost them. I bought a Tele that had similar damage (as a project guitar). Stripped it and refinished it. No veneer so no danger of sanding through the paper thin veneer. They knocked about 25% off their advertised street price.
