Epi Dot - Is it a good guitar?
Hi, Everybody
This is my first post here ... I´m already have a Epi Les Paul plain top, VS very beaultiful, that I like very much ...it is chinese and very good ... and I had a tokai Es 60 (335) korean, wich I liked the sound and the fell but I didn`t like the color ...so I put to sell ...
But I liked very much to play and the fell of with semi-acoustic guitars, and I am wondering about the Dot , and I´d like your opinion about the new Epiphone Dot (china). Do you think is a good choice in this price range ? And the pickups are good? The construction? How much it weight?
Do you notice some feedback when playing with the rest of your band?
Any away, thanks for any coments about this guitar ...I really like the visual of this guitar and I´m thinking on buy one.
Thanks you guys for any help.
Paulo

I have a Dot deluxe from Musicians friend. It SAYS limited edition which I think only means they were made for M.F.
Sound is very good. I had to replace the nut and tighten and adjust just about everything on the guitar as it arrived in fairly crappy condition and set up and intonation was non existant. I also like the wider Gibson nut & not the metric width of the neck....
It looks great and the PUPS are fine once I adjusted them correctly.
All in all I'd say it's a great guitar for the price and feedback is not an issue.
I play it through that Fender Twin in my avatar, so that's a BIG part of it sounding good.

I like them a lot. so much so that I keep wondering if I can't find an excuse to buy one.
I've got a sheraton II I've had for 17 years.. and I've even got an lp studio..
both of which I really like.
The dot has some not quite top of the line features..
but overall, in that price range, I think it's just tops.
good tuners, good finish, sharp looks, nice fretwork..
all epis are somewhat mid priced in the pickups and electronics department, but hey.. people put new pups in their gibsons, too so..
the ltd. ed. custom p93 riviera MF had was one heck of a bargain..
500.00 for three pickups and a bigsby on a semi hollow!
sheesh!
but a dot.. even the dot studio with a couple of upgrades is just a heck of a guitar.

Dot Studio
Glad to hear good things about the Dots! I'm getting ready to pick up a Dot
Studio in the natural mahogany finish. It appears to be in pristine condition, no scratches or dents or dings that I can see in the very good, hi res pics.
I'll actually get to see it in person this weekend. I have already decided to get one and this looks like a good find. Since I've already talked myself into getting it, it comes down to finding a reason NOT to. That would be a noticeable warp in the neck or if the serial # that I've already checked out is not actually on the guitar, not much chance of that as the pics are very good. Can't wait, have been thinking about a semi-hollow body guitar for some time and just ran across this one. Actually not supposed to buy any more guitars for awhile since I got a Epiphone Les Paul Standard Honey Burst in Jan, which I'm totally in love with, and a 12 String Alvarez Acoustic earlier this month. If I get this Dot it will be 3 guitars in 3 monthes so far this year.
There is no way that I can afford to buy a guitar every month for the rest of this year but it is a nice trend. At the very least I plan to get one next Jan. as I have found that starting the year off with a new guitar is good for the spirit, foreword momentum and warm fuzzies in general. Besides you just feel special with a new guitar, inspired and motivated to learn and play more.
I'll post some pics when I get the new (to me) Dot Studio. I just hope that I don't find a reason to pass on it.

Mr. Paulo,
I bought my Dad one a few months ago, natural color, and it does sing. I got it used, with a hardshell for $150, almost new. My new friend who sold it to me just wanted to unload quickly. I will be getting photos; it actually has the best grain of any guitar I own or have seen, minus wavy quilts! It is rather heavy, solid, very bottom-ish in tone, even with the bridge pickup. It has a very girthy growl when overdrive is applied, but my Dad is a clean freak. Should you choose to partake, enjoy...and congratulations on the gift of choice!

The Epi Dots that I've played over the last few years were surprisingly nice. The price makes the decision very easy. In fact, I almost bought one a few times just for the hell of it.

I've been looking for a nice Dot for a while. I find the Sheratons are much nicer (sound and playability), but if I found a cherry red Dot that played well I'd jump on it.

I decided I wanted a 335 years ago but the cost told me 'no way'-so I set my sites on an Epi Dot. Within a couple of weeks I walked into a local music store and there was a used Sheraton 2 in ebony-she won me over in a second. I hung out till they closed playing it, and was there the next morning when they opened and brought it home-I was so nervous that someone would buy it first that I wasn't taking any chances.

Owner of a MIK Epi Dot. Wonderful axe, fast, but not too slim neck, great blues growl. I was surprised that the guitar distorts as easily as it does - my Les Paul actually plays cleaner at higher levels before break up. The China ones are made in Epiphone's private factory. Have played a few and they seem equally as good.
