I opted for Seymour Duncan Seth Lovers on my Classic. Expensive, but a huge improvement in sound and, let's be honest, in looks.

i love the playability of the LP Classic, but hated the sound of those harsh ceramic pups...
+ 1 on the Seymour Duncan Seth Lovers...
the LP Classic goldtop i put them in now sounds like heaven & gives
my Burstbucker-equipped CS / VOS goldie real competition !

I put S.D. Seth Lovers in my '96 classic and changed the 300k pots to 500k. Much more usable for a variety of music. For some, the 500k pots might make it a little too bright for a les paul, but at least now I can back the controls down a little to get 300k if I want. (hope that made sense)

I didnt mean it to work out this way but I wound up with a 496r in the neck and a p-90 in the bridge and its the most amazing versatile cobination you'll likely ever hear. Just roll a lil tone off the bridge and back the vol off the neck to about 6, truely haunting. bridge only, great leads. neck only beautiful rythem. I like it so much i'm gonna put the same combo togather for my kid. I bet a p-90 in the neck anda 498t in the bridge would be somthin to behold too, but i'm running out of guitars.

Gibsons own 57 classic is my alltime favourite humbucker. Duncan 59's are OK and
Duncan Pearly Gates isn't bad either specially in the bridge position.
Cheers
