58 Les Paul
Had a chance to briefly handle this gem today. I didn't have time to inspect it, not that I would know what to look for. There were no signs of replaced parts. Here is how it was described to me:
58 Burst Les Paul with PAFs, signed by the man himself. It needed a good cleaning and set up. I wish I could have plugged in and given it a go.

...leaning against a wall in a construction area? Odd...it does look nice. Too bad an amp wasn't handy.

The guitar is the receiving room of an auction house. I know the guy in charge, he gave me a sneak peek. I'll get a chance to play it just prior to the auction in a couple of months.

I wonder what the signature will do to the auction price; up or down, collectors, not players, want everything completely original.

I don't think Les Pauls signature is going to hurt the value of the sale. Wow factor, the guitar looks like it's only a few years old, not 52 years old.

that's a nice old guitar. it being at a "auction house" means that it's gonna go for a big price regardless of who signed it. it probably hasn't been played alot either, just because of wanting to preserve the signature. whoever gets it is going to have some "deep pockets". ha ha

This guitar will be in an auction, therefore the price will probably escalate due to the fervor of the bidders. I wonder if a player with deep pockets will snag it, or a collector who will try to resell? I hope for a player, but chances are some business cat or family money man will get wind, smell the "coolness," and snag it for viewing in his office or home. A wall cabinet may be the new home of this axe, but I hope not! It deserves to be played, not just adored.
