New pickguard - keep or not?

Transparent to show off the top but not sure about the metal bracket, so do I keep it or put the cream one back on?

I agree with showing off that beautiful top but the bracket has to go. I took the whole guard off of my ES137 and prefer the look....plus I'm pretty docile with my strumming. Try it without a guard for a while. In the meantime, check to see if anyone makes a clear plastic (usually polycarbonate material) bracket.

Thanks Rob,
Not sure if I should remove it as I already have a couple of pick-strikes on it! I doubt if there's a transparent bracket available but I will look for one or perhaps I can adapt something.

I have one LP that came new without a pickguard, and I put a nice pick scratch on it in the first two hours of playing it. Wah! So I got a nice plastic one for it straight away.

I do like the clear one you have on there! But I'm so used to the traditional look that the cream guard looks great too.

Doesn't Taylor have a clear guard for their acoustics? Maybe you can get some of that material, trim it to size and just stick it on the surface.

That's a thought, I will do some investigation. The clear one was less than £10 from Amazon so I'm not bothered if I ditch it for something better.

I've decided I'm not going to use anything sticky in case it reacts with the finish, so maybe a plastic bracket is the answer. I see some guitars now have bracketless pickguards which slot into the pickup ring but that would mean new pup rings too and I don't think there are any clear ones yet. I'll bear that in mind for the future though.

I was thinking of that too but I don't think you can get them in clear. Gibson is using them now. I may be wrong but I think the Taylor one uses static electricity to stick.

It seems to work for Brian Setzer!

From a distance that doesn't look bad at all, I think overall I won't be disappointed if I keep the metal bracket as the overall look is an improvement IMHO.
