Christmas trees...real or artificial

Just wondering how many here at Gibson Talk put up real Christmas trees vs artificial.

My wife and i have been doing real trees for close to 30 of our 37 years together. We started when our son was born 29 years ago. We went to tree farms a few times when they got older to cut our own. However, the last 12-15 years, we've been buying balsam trees at Ikea each year. They started around $10 years ago and are now around $20. (You also get a coupon worth $20 to spend in the store after the new year).

So like Gibson vs Epiphone, is it real or a "copy" in your house?

We rarely put one up now our kids and even grand kids are grown up. Decades ago, we used real trees but our dogs at the time didn't get on with them, so artificial won the day.

For many years, we always put up a real tree, and thought we always would! But then about 10 years ago, my wife changed our mind and we got an artificial tree. So we've been using and storing it since then. It is a little less mess in the house, but it will never smell as good as a real tree.

We have used live potted pine trees 6 to 7 ft. for years that were transplanted to our lawn area. During that time we had a house on 2 acres and there was plenty of room to put them in. Since then then we have moved/down sized and only our first year here did we have a live potted tree that was put in the back lawn area. So now we use a artificial 7 ft. tree which is not bad. I you want the pine scent just spray it or use those hanging pine scented refreshners................

I like the "my wife changed OUR mind" comment. I've been trying to change her mind lately due to the mess but she doesn't seem to mind....even when we are still finding the odd needle in July under area rugs or some big piece of furniture that we moved.

Hah! Yeah, happy wife = happy life, y'know! The artificial trees still shed a little bit, but not nearly like the real thing.

Nice tree Rob. We put ours up a week ago but it is a artificial but it still serves the purpose to me..................have had a rough time of it as I was in the hospital and just got out several days ago. Started out as a extreme sciatica nerve pain in the right hip and had to go to the ER. Had to go back several days later for the same thing and this time they found pneumonia in the lower right lung among other things so I am a bit of a mess but I will prevail, for sure....................
