Here's what the Gotoh split shafts look like on a Melody Maker ( same stock tuners, except different knobs ):
I really love the split shafts for practical application, but the stock washer has defaced the headstock and these rings are exposed with these Gotohs.
The posts could be an eighth inch higher. Next I will look at the Grover line and see if they have something cooler that also will not harm the guitar either - I like the option of just going back to stock. Of course if I can find some repros that are really like the old '50-'60s tuners I'll go for those.
I'm also looking for some 3/8ths OD conversion bushes with a big wide ring atop them, that would disguise the rings, but they must also be nearly flush - that will not be easy to find.
