Gibson Explorer Black and Gold

Hi Gibson guys and girls,

I saw Lzzy Hale rock this Gibson Explorer in the colors of black and gold (with a gold pickguard not just finishes) but I have not been able to identify this model, the year, or where I could get a hold of one for that matter. This is my absolute favorite finish on the Explorer, from what I have seen up until now and I would be really interested to buy one, but I can't identify it. Note that this is not the Government Series(the colors are inverted) or the 1982 (that only has gold pickups and details but not the pickguard).

Hi and welcome to this place.

Never seen an explorer like this or in fact not aware of the artist, but why not contact Gibson and ask them. They usually try and help if they can

Lzzy Hale

Yeah, I was very intrigued to see this model. Lzzy Hale is the lead singer of the hard rock band Halestorm, and if you search for Explorers on the Gibson site, you will see she has her own Explorer signature series 😃 However, the color is Alpine White with Gold on hers, as opposed to black with gold, and it is the first time I see such colors on the Explorer, but it is my absolute favorite combination. Thanks for the suggestion to ask Gibson themselves, I will try that.

Welcome to the forum, I've wanted a Explorer for years but the closest I have is a Epi Firebird that I converted to mini humbuckers.
Great picture!

Glad to hear that. I guess the Epiphone is a worthy replacement in the lack of a Gibson. Better than my Gio anyway 😂😂. Weirdly, I found another picture with this same guitar, and it keeps intriguing me.

Gibson answered

So, the officials at Gibson responded and they said that particular guitar with that combination of colors was made especially for her and that it is not available for buying. Which is really a bummer because that particular guitar is probably my favorite guitar ever. I guess I'll just stick to the blackout or to the '82 if I ever get a chance.

On the Gibson site if you click on the guitar model you can sometimes change the finish

Thanks, I knew that already. But none of those combinations offer you black ebony with gold finishes and a gold pickguard. Had that been the case, I wouldn't have started the thread in the first place.

You could just get a black and chrome Explorer, and then purchase an aftermarket gold anodized pickguard. There are sites that make custom 'guards for a price.
